FAQ

The Most Questions We Had

What is the difference between TaeKwonDo and Karate?

While both TaeKwonDo and Karate teach self-discipline, respect, and confidence, they come from different origins and have unique training styles.

TaeKwonDo was developed in Korea and focuses heavily on kicks, agility, and dynamic movement. Students learn how to use their legs for power, speed, and control.

Karate, on the other hand, originated in Japan and emphasizes hand techniques, strong stances, and linear movement.

At Troy Kids TaeKwonDo, children benefit from modern TaeKwonDo training that builds balance, coordination, and focus—all while having fun in a safe, encouraging environment.

How will TaeKwonDo help my child outside of class?

TaeKwonDo isn’t just about kicks and punches—it’s about life skills. Students learn respect, discipline, focus, and perseverance. Parents often tell us their children start listening better at home, doing better in school, and showing more confidence in everyday situations.

Is TaeKwonDo safe for kids?

Absolutely. Safety is our top priority. Classes are taught by certified instructors with decades of experience in children’s martial arts. We focus on proper technique, controlled movements, and mutual respect so kids can train confidently and safely.

How often should my child attend classes?

Most students attend 2 to 3 times per week for the best results. Consistent attendance helps kids progress faster, build better habits, and stay motivated. We also offer flexible class times to fit your family’s schedule.

How long does it take to earn a Black Belt?

Earning a Black Belt is a journey of growth and perseverance, not a race. Most students reach this milestone in 3 to 4 years with consistent training and effort. Along the way, they earn colored belts that mark their progress and build confidence.

Do I have to sign a long-term contract?

We offer a variety of membership options, including flexible short-term and long-term programs. Our goal is to make it easy for families to find the right fit—without pressure or hidden fees.

Can parents watch classes?

Yes! We have a comfortable viewing area where parents can watch their child’s progress. We love seeing families celebrate their child’s effort and improvement.

What should my child wear to the first class?

For the first class, comfortable athletic clothes work great—no shoes or socks are needed on the mats. Once your child joins, they’ll receive their official TaeKwonDo uniform (dobok) as part of their training program.
